This collection is devoted to a series of human and animal portraits created between 2016 and 2022, which to date includes 24 small-format canvases and one larger diptych. These portraits are sometimes made from models or composed from the painter's imagination. Beyond resemblance or verisimilitude, the spirit of these portraits essentially illustrates characters, a personality, human or animal. The technique used is a nod to the ideas of cubism by adding the effects of movement and writing which are two very recognisable elements of Laurent Messager's work. The diptych, which presents two full-length portraits of a woman and a man, is a more committed work that clearly criticizes the overconsumption of mass distribution, its metal frame is itself made from the waste of this consumption.
