If one were to summarise his long and impressive career as a painter Jean-Pierre VIELFAURE, knowing that he began his first drawings at the age of 12, one could fill an impressive number of pages with his pen and his small bottle of Indian ink.
He spent hours drawing and painting while listening to jazz and reading poetry, but he also liked to travel literally and figuratively to enrich his poetic and artistic universe.
If you were to play the game "whose work is this?" with the impressive number of thematic series and the great diversity of them you might not win the first time.
He started with very small formats in HB pencil paper, then using black and coloured Indian ink when his financial means allowed.
He then mixed all the techniques that allowed him to explore and enrich his universe: acrylic paint, aerosols, collages of cut-out magazine photos, the use of found objects (in New York or on the beach), the use of trichloroethylene to make transfers, the addition of artistic elements off-centre of the canvas...
He produced hundreds of drawings and canvases (including the 42-metre long "Opera Civilisation" bought by a New York gallery at his DROUOT studio sale) and an incredible quantity of themed series (self-portraits, Arctic Odyssey, Venetian Testament, New York Diary, etc.) in which he could give free rein to his self-taught imagination.

For those of you who know his long artistic career, you know that he loved to create series around a theme, such as the New York Diaries, his Diaries and the Initiatory Scrolls, to name but a few (not present on the site because they used collages).
But what you probably don't know is that the last canvas or drawing that ended a series had distinctive elements and signs that would be found in the next series.
Not all series had the same number of works, and when he felt he had completed the subject he would start a new one.
He also sometimes worked on several series at the same time.
Here we present themes explored in a small number of works, some of whose artistic and graphic elements are found in the larger series.
