»I’m painting with words.« Ralf Lobeck's "type paintings" combine color and writing, an interplay of considered use of typography and impulsive application of color. The text, song lyrics, or quotes from literature, is woven into the layers of color, which sometimes appear clear, and sometimes fragmentary. His use of typography is often experimental, a mixture of serif and sans serif fonts, blackletter and handwriting. The letters reveal their own aesthetics while the intense or transparent colors create the overall mood.
Ralf Lobeck lives and works in Cologne and Düsseldorf, Germany. After studying Visual Communication, he worked in media companies and universities. His artistic works are represented on international platforms and can be seen nationally and internationally in solo and group exhibitions.
