Frank Kortan grew up in Prague (Czech Republic), and has been living and working in Germany in the last 40 years. He works in style of Surrealism, Fantastic Realism and Trompe-l'oeil. Among his other numerous art awards, he is a winner of World Prize of Salvador Dalí for Fine Arts.
He had always been passionate about painting from a young age and oil painting as a supreme discipline has always fascinated him. He started to study the perfect technique according to the guidelines of the old masters to implement his ideas and themes without any technical limitation. He paints exclusively on wood because a wooden surface can be primed perfectly and is most optimal for his purpose. The highly smooth surface allows him to paint the finest details in several layers on top of each other, creating an optical 3D illusion, which is used in the Trompe-l'oeil style. However, he developed his style further and combines Trompe-l'oeil with Surrealism and Fantastic Realism, as it offers him countless expression possibilities.
Frank Kortan's works are in museums as well as private collections worldwide.
His oil paintings have been seen in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the globe.
