SETTLED RED

The book “Bezonken Rood” by Jeroen Brouwers served as a source of inspiration for this painting. In the Artwork, Eekhout wrote text fragments in Japanese with metallic foil in bright red colors. “It is the beginning of August 1945 – I find myself, but I do not know it yet, in an epicenter of world history: what is happening changes the face of the earth, god is de­divinized, life from these days will never be what it was be­ fore these days have passed, because in one fell swoop all times come to an end and the end is marked by the invisible scar of a burn on the skin of the world and of all humanity, which cannot be made invisible in centuries.
